Friends of Brinton Park planted the Autumn Blaze Acer during their recent Christmas Fair. The tree is part of the Queen's Green Canopy, a nationwide initiative created to mark her Platinum Jubilee. The initiative was due to end in December 2022, the end of her Platinum Jubilee year, but has been extended to March 2023 to include the full tree planting season, whilst also giving people the opportunity to plant a tree in memory of Her Majesty.

Wyre Forest District Council presented members from Friends of Brinton Park with the Autumn Acer tree. The group asked local fund-raising legend Fred Holland OOM BCA and local boy, Hayden Williams to plant the tree with the assistance of Wyre Forest District Council’s Parks team.

Chair Phil Ginnings said:

“The tree was planted in memory of the late Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and long reign of service. Despite the very cold weather, it was great to see members of the park community come down for the ceremony and support our second Christmas Fair.”

Cabinet Member for Operational Services, Councillor John Thomas said:

“We are delighted to be able to help the Friends by supplying the tree and join with many other communities who have planted trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy. Over the past three years the council’s planted more than 20,000 trees in our parks, nature reserves and open spaces across the district. Tree planting is part of our Green Advisory Panel’s Action Plan.”

There is still time to plant a tree in memoriam and as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy. More information about planting a tree can be found on the Queen’s Green Canopy website. Details of the tree planting can be added to an interactive map.
